George Town Heritage Celebration and George Town Festival 2020 cancelled

The George Town Heritage Celebrations and the Georgetown Festival 2020 has been cancelled in view of the World Health Organisation (WHO) officially declaring the Covid-19 as an pandemic in Geneva this morning.

 
WHO has advised all countries to activate emergency response mechanisms and reduce transmission.
 
The Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) has also issued a statement on March 11 to urge everyone to postpone mass gathering to reduce the transmission of Covid-19.
 
The Penang State Government and the George Town Heritage Incorporated have made this difficult decision to cancel George Town Heritage Celebrations 2020 and George Town Festival 2020.
 
Both events were scheduled in July 2020. All planned programme will be moved forward to 2021 respectively.
 
“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and seek the understanding of everyone on this difficult decision. 
 
“The health and wellbeing of our people is our top priority and we will do our best to mitigate the negative impacts from this decision,” said State Exco for Tourism, Arts, Culture and Heritage, Yeoh Soon Hin in a press statement today.
