Responding quickly to the outbreak of Covid-19 cases at the Penang Prison recently, members of the Buddhist Tzu-Chi Merits Society Malaysia (Penang) made a decision to supply personal protection equipment (PPE) to the inmates and officers on duty there.
The humanitarian gesture consisted of the much needed items, namely, 5000 pieces of 3- ply face masks, 500 N95 face masks, 500 face shields and another 500 isolation gowns complete with hoot, body and shoe cover.

The delegation to the prison located along Jalan Datuk Keramat was led by Khoo Boo Leong, commissioner of Buddhist Tzu-Chi Merits Society Malaysia and other officials.
Present to represent the Penang Prison was deputy enforcer, Mohd Nizam Nazri (security & intelligence unit).
“We hope that with the supply of these equipment, it will help to keep the prisoners and the officers on duty safe during this pandemic,” said Khoo.
Buddhist Tzu-Chi Merits Society Malaysia is not new to lending aid and assistance and reaching out to those in need as they have previously provided 5,000 PPEs to the General Hospitals in Penang and Seberang Jaya.
On numerous occasions, they have also helped flood victims and other calamities on the island and also helped house the homeless and underprivileged during the MCO.
Kudos to the Buddhist Tzu-Chi Merits Society Malaysia on their relentless efforts to help deserving Malaysians during these trying times.
