Anyone can do his or her bid to fight the Covid-19 pandemic if they only decide to take up the initiative.

Take the example of Salatchi Ammal, 57, from the Golden Sands Resort in Penang.

She is one of the staff of the resort from the Housekeeping Department as a Linen Maid and has been with the resort for 26 years.

But while most of her colleagues were staying safe at home during the lockdown from March 18, 2020, Salatchi made 500 pieces of face mask from old bedsheets and pillow cases.

As this was also during the time when supply of face masks were running low in the market, the face masks came in very handy for the resort team members.

Her efforts has received lots of compliments from her colleagues and friends from Shangri-La properties around the world.

What was amazing was that she voluntarily kept herself busy during the first month of MCO (Movement Control Order) period March 2020.

Salatchi’s effort to return to work to sew these masks voluntarily during the MCO period is truly commendable and noteworthy.

The 3-ply face has been washed, dried and ironed to fully disinfect the fabric before being distributed for colleagues on-duty use.

“We don’t just dispose of the old linen. We make life saving face masks out of them,” said Salatchi when asked to comment about her efforts.

Kudos to Salatchi for her great efforts and making a real difference during these trying times.
