Public Gold Group Unveils New Gold Refinery Centre in Batu Kawan

Penang accounts for around 70–80 per cent of Malaysia’s gold jewellery manufacturing, with the state serving as the country’s major hub for gold jewellery production and design.
It is therefore of no surprise that Public Gold Group has launched its new gold refining plant here. The facility located at the Batu Kawan Industrial Park, involves an investment of RM30 million. More importantly, the facility can refine around 10 tonnes of gold annually.
Present at the opening ceremony was Penang Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow along with the Minister of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development, YB Steven Sim, Public Gold Group’s founder and executive chairman Datuk Seri Louis Ng and a host of other guests.
In his opening address, Chow said that the launch of the Public Gold Refinery Centre marks an important milestone not only for Public Gold, but also for Penang and Malaysia’s growing precious metals industry.
“As the first international-standard refinery in Malaysia, this facility represents an important step forward in our ambition to attract high-value investments and build new areas of industrial strength. Penang continues to focus on attracting high-value investments, developing skilled talent, and strengthening our manufacturing and industrial ecosystem.
“Penang has long been recognised for its strengths in manufacturing, technology, engineering and international trade. The establishment of this refinery adds another dimension to our industrial capabilities, particularly in the areas of advanced precious metals processing and manufacturing.” added Chow in his address.
He also shared that the development of this refinery also contributes to the broader vision of strengthening Penang’s position as a gold and jewellery hub, building on our existing strengths
in manufacturing, entrepreneurship, trade and connectivity.

Chow later joined VIP guests to perform the launch ceremony and toured the new facility.
