The long awaited good news is here for Penangites who dread the daily traffic congestion on the island.

The light rail transit (LRT) will not only cover Komtar to Bayan Lepas but will also extend to Tanjung Bungah.

Present to make the announcement was Transport Minister Anthony Loke along with Penang Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow recently.

The LRT will be built on an elevated platform due to unavailability of and is expected to take up to five years.

Thus the Penang International Airport (PIA) will be connected via the LRT and construction will be undertaken by MRT Corp.

MRT Corp is the developer and asset owner of the Mass Rapid Transit project in Kuala Lumpur.
