How Malaysians go fervent with bread, as of now

STRANGE as it may be but Malaysians generally do not eat that much bread as they do now.

Ever since the start of the bizarre and unprecedented lengthy nation-wide Movement Control Order (MCO) lockdown because of the devastating Covid-19 pandemic, almost every family has been buying or even snapping up every loaf of bread available and seen by their naked eyes on the shelves of most supermarkets and sundry shops.

Some would grab or hoard as many as seven loaves if they can, although common sense tells us that they can’t be stored for long.

Still, isn’t it comical to say the least that hoarding as many loaves of bread is the first thing that most of us would do as at this particular moment if there’s no tomorrow.

True be frank, such a scenario has never happened in Malaysia before and for the many bread manufacturers in this country, this is almost certainly an unexpected windfall all right.

Habitually, Malaysians are not known to have consumed bread as fervent as they are now.

Who else to for the bread manufacturers to thank for but the globe’s newly discovered foe – Covid-19 disease.

Speaking of it, Gardenia Bakeries(KL) Sdn Bhd has recently announced an increase in its production rate to 2.2 million loaves of bread a day to supplement the burning needs of the now bread-eating frenzy Malaysians.

In a broad sense, eating bread is fun, perhaps, for now.

You can either have it French-toasted or go along with it with two half-boil eggs.

You can also do it the butter-and-kaya way or have it with peanut butter or pineapple jam.

Alternatively, you can dip a slice of the bread into your favourite steamy Kopi-o or as many would prefer, dip it in your favourite curry flavour that you favours.

Lastly, take it easy on your loaf of bread.
