MAH Kedah and Perlis MAH chairman, Eugene Dass.

According to the chairman of the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH Kedah/Perlis Chapter) Eugene Dass, many of its members are experiencing an uptake in room occupancies.

“The trend has been encouraging following the announcement to lift the restrictions from Dec 7 by the Minister of Defence Malaysia, Dato Sri Ismail Sabri.

“If this trend keeps up, the various hotels can at least have the consolation of some form of recovery before the year ends,” said Dass when met at the StarCity Hotel where he is the general manager.

He also revealed that for Alor Star, his hotel is experiencing an increase in occupancy rate from 5 to 10 %. He added that their sister property, Fuller Hotel, is also experiencing a similar positive trend presently.

A random check by Where2lifestyle in the city also showed a similar positive trend among other hotels in the area.

Other notable hotels in the city are the Grand Alora, Royale Signature Hotel, Art Villa, The Jerai Hotel among others.

Meanwhile, the legendary Langkawi island which has always been a favourite holiday destination among locals is experiencing a similar surge.

“Langkawi hotels are showing good signs of recovery since Inter-state travel has eased as some are recording more then 30% and even bookings for coming months.

“Hotels there are still running their promotion rates to attract the locals,” added Dass.

On this positive note, the Splash Out Langkawi also announced its reopening from this coming school break (Dec 18th, 2020) daily except Wednesday with the operating hours from 11am to 5pm.

Raj Kumar, MAH Penang chapter chairman.

Another check with the Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH Penang Chapter) chairman, Raj Kumar revealed a more cautious trend .

“Although the arrivals are slowly picking up, corporate events are still slow and uncertain. However it is still early to make a final judgement on the trend.

“To be safe, we are looking at next year 2021 for a more solid recovery and later in 2022 for much more firmer ground for the industry overall,” said Raj to Where2Lifestyle.
