Vibrant shades of purple engulfed the iconic Ipoh Town Hall’s facade and also the Sultan Yusof roundabout in conjunction with the World Prematurity Day 2020.
The World Prematurity Day is observed on Nov 17 each year to raise awareness of preterm birth and the concerns of preterm babies and their families worldwide.
Approximately 15 million babies are born preterm each year, accounting for about one in 10 of all babies born worldwide.
The Ipoh City Council (MBI) took the initiative to join forces with the Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun Ipoh to organise the event.
Ipoh Mayor Datuk Bandar Datuk Rumaizi Baharin said that the both buildings were lighted up from 8pm to 12am.
He also added that the gesture is their way to show support to the cause.
Such lighting ceremonies have also been a feature at the Empire State Building in New York and Menara Kuala Lumpur.
Meanwhile, the Sultan Yusof roundabout had recently gone through a RM400,000 facelift to upgrade landscaping, paint job, placing a globe feature on top of the fountain, installing latest piping systems and a new pump technology.
