The needy community receive Deepavali aid

The Malaysian Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI Penang Chapter) held a gathering recently to hand out aid for the underprivileged community in conjunction with Deepavali.

Although in total 100 people were listed to receive assistance, only 70 of them were invited to attend in view of social distancing and Covid-19 pandemic restrictions.
 
Each family received RM180 cash packets and other essential food items.
 
Present was Penang MICCI president N. Gopalakrishnan and his committee.
 
Gopalakrishnan added that they have organised such gatherings for the past four years to help the needy community.
 
Meanwhile, Chow advised those gathered to celebrate the festival in moderation in view of covid-19 pandemic.

“Please observe all of the directives to keep the virus at bay for the safety of your family and friends,” he added.
 
In another development, a non-governmental organisation (NGO), the Penang Hindu Association (PHA) also gave out aid to some 70 families here with essential food items and RM50 cash awards.
 
Their children will also be clad new outfits thanks to several textile shops in the Little India area. 
 
Among the donors were Umayal Textiles, Chennai Silk Centre, Enrico and other business establishments here.
