Ipoh has become the first city in the country to have it’s very own drive-in cinema with the launch of the “Casuarina Sini-Drive” in Downtown Meru over the weekend.

While other locations like the Klang Valley were earlier touted to come up with the outdoor concept, Ipoh’s initiative will surely help to generate local tourism.

Present to launch the project was Perak Menteri Besar Dato Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu who has been credited to be the brainchild of the project.

The venture is managed by Casuarina Meru Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Perak Corporation Berhad (PCB) with a website and online ticketing system. The venue can accommodate around 70 cars at any one time.

Also present was State Exco for Housing, Local Government and Tourism Datuk Nolee Ashilin Mohammed Radzi and PCB chief executive Zainal Iskandar Ismail.

Tickets are priced between RM36 and RM42 for each vehicle including snacks and drinks.

Members of the public can enjoy action movies as well as Bollywood movies from 8pm to 11pm on a six metre by 18 metres screen daily except Mondays.

The venture will also be available for future franchise opportunities in other locations in Perak.

In the pipeline are similar projects in Kuala Kangsar and Kampar depending on the demand from the community there.

Kudos to PCB and Perak Tourism to promote the state as a tourism destination.
