Penang trishaw riders get Ghee Hiang biscuits

As every sector of the community is greatly affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, assistance in any form is highly appreciated.
This time around, Penang’s oldest heritage biscuit and sesame oil brand Ghee Hiang distributed over 100 sets of biscuits to the trishaw peddlers here.
Also present at the ceremony was state exco for Tourism, Arts, Culture and Heritage, Yeoh Soon Hin.
The boxes also included the famous and popular small Tau Sar Pneah, Beh Teh Saw and Almond Cookies.
As part of the Penang State Government’s contribution in order to alleviate their burden, they gave financial aid of RM500 in April to 150 trishaw peddlers.
On top of that, the Federal Government also gave RM600 this month which helped them during this difficult period.
“We are thankful that local brands like Ghee Hiang have made a meaningful gesture and stepped forward to assist the trishaw peddlers.
“I welcome more private sector and different parties to help those needed in this difficult period,” said Yeoh.
Meanwhile, Ghee Hiang executive director, Chng Huck Theng added that many organisations have been very kind in providing meals but biscuits can be kept longer, around two weeks and this at least give them something to bite in case the trishaw riders get hungry in between meals or late at night.
Chng is also the chairman of the Association of Tourism Attractions Penang (ATAP).
