The Ritz-Carlton, Langkawi is proud to announce that it has received the Forbes VERIFIED Responsible Hospitality badge by Forbes Travel, an industry-leading sustainability standard for luxury hospitality.
This prestigious certification is awarded to properties that fulfill 100 requirements, and is a testament to the resort’s efforts in responsible hospitality, championing sustainability and protecting the environment, supporting the well-being of guests, the Ladies & Gentlemen and the local community.
This recognition comes after a successful year, having been awarded Best Hotel Pool in Malaysia in Travel + Leisure’s Luxury Awards Asia-Pacific 2025, being named as one of the Top 500 Hotels in the World by Travel + Leisure, and winning Best Resort in Malaysia in DestinAsian’s Readers’ Choice Awards 2025.
“It is truly an honor to receive the prestigious accreditation of Forbes VERIFIED Responsible Hospitality. Our resort embraces sustainability best practices with the aim to protect our delicate environment and support the wellbeing of our Ladies and Gentlemen, our Guests and the Langkawi community. This recognition by Forbes Travel is a reflection of the unwavering dedication of our Ladies and Gentlemen” said General Manager Mafalda Costa Tavares.
“Responsible hospitality is at the forefront of our priorities. A 360-degree sustainability approach has been adopted through The Ritz-Carlton, Langkawi experiences, whether by growing our own herbs and vegetables at Nibong Garden, championing the replanting of Langkawi’s iconic mangroves together with ‘The Hereafter Project’, or partnering with brands that offer sustainably-sourced products in our guestrooms and spa, such as Diptyque and Kerstin Florian,” said Mafalda.
The resort’s Ambassador of Sustainability and The Environment, Fadzli Luqman, added that the resort’s educational and exploratory programs offer a unique angle on responsible tourism.
“We have developed various educational programs for guests of all ages to experience, that are not just limited to appreciating the environment around the property. Our Eco-Rangers program and Sea Cucumber Nursery, part of Community Footprints, held at our Eco-Discovery Center complement the offerings outside the resort, such as our partnership with Langkawi’s UNESCO Global Geopark. We work together with the local authorities and community in highlighting and preserving the UNESCO Global Geopark with our ‘Hereafter Project’” said Fadzli, a certified Marine Biologist.
Along with his fellow Marine Biologists and the resort’s team of Naturalists, Langkawi’s verdant 10-million-year-old ancient rainforest also sets the scene for outdoor adventures such as RitzVenture and Trails of Wonder, as well as indoor cultural activities.
“Guests are also able to learn more about the great culture the locals of Langkawi have during their stay, whether through the ancient art of batik painting, traditional soap making or replanting vibrant Ixora trees with our Plant-A-Tree program, where we continue to keep guests and mini explorers updated on the progress of their tree. Through this effort, the local ecology and community are supported through various collaborations that ensures their wellbeing and livelihood” said Fadzli.
This resort does not plan to rest on its laurels, aiming higher as Mafalda stated that their new goal is to obtain the MOTAC Green Hotel certification, with Fadzli working with the team to continue improving their waste management program, reducing their carbon footprint and further growing the Eco-Discovery Center to offer a wider variety of nature-based learning for adults.
