The very first M Social branded hotel in Penang and the country will be coming up by the end of this year.

Its location is the former Copthorne Orchid Hotel in Tanjung Bungah here which is being revived under a new brand name. 

Over the years, the hotel was known previously as the Orchard Sun, Orchid Hotel and Novotel.

Moving forward, the rebranded hotel is expected to be relaunched under the Singapore-based M Social Hotel brand.

Major renovation work is currently underway to bring back the glory days of the hotel. 

In its heyday, the hotel was a hive of activity for local and foreign tourists for dining, accommodation and entertainment too.

According to sources, once completed, the hotel will offer 318 rooms all featuring a lifestyle concept. 

The main restaurant is expected to serve a fusion of Vietnamese and Japanese influences along with a myriad of  international spreads.

The buffet meals at the hotel will be offered on a “hybrid concept” for diners. House guests can also enjoy the swimming pool and work out in the gym.

For those who remember, one of Penang’s popular entertainment outlets, the Shock Disco was once located at the driveway to the hotel.

The hotel’s parent company Millennium & Copthorne Hotels has some 125 hotels in 22 countries in Asia, Australia, Europe, the Middle East and North America.
