Free ferry rides for disabled individuals wef April 8, 2024

As part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR), disabled individuals do not have to pay for their ferry rides with effect from Monday, April 8, 2024.
Those concerned will only need to register with any of the Penang Port Commission (PPC) or Penang Port Sdn Bhd (PPSB) terminal counters at the Sultan Abdul Halim Ferry Terminal or Raja Tun Uda Ferry Terminal to qualify for this exemption.
They are also reminded to bring along their Identification Card (I/C) and OKU Card issued by the Department of Social Welfare (JKM).
Present to announce this new development was Dato’ Yeoh Soon Hin, chairman of Penang Port Commission (PPC) along with Dato’ Seri Syed Mohamad Syed Murtaza (Chairman of PPSB), Dr. V. Vijayaindiaran (General Manager of PPC), and Dato’ Sasedharan Vasudevan (Chief Executive Officer of PPSB).
The move is a collaboration between the Penang Port Commission and the Penang Port Sdn. Bhd. (PPSB).
Meanwhile, it should be noted that this is not the first time that the operators of the ferry service are participating in a CSR programme.
Post pandemic, they had offered free ferry service for members of the public for a limited period. They also have also offered season passes with a discount of 50 per cent for pedestrians and 30 per cent for motorcyclists.
The measures are aimed at helping the lower income group to lessen their cost of living.
Penang’s iconic ferry service has been in operation since 1924.
