The Penang South Island (PSI) has been scaled down from the initial three islands to only one Island now.

This is following the request by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim himself during the Hari Raya Open House gathering on the mainland recently..

The only island called “Silicon Island” will cover an area of 2,300 acres.

Penang Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow made the announcement at a press conference in Komtar yesterday.

This development is following news of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim agreeing to fully fund the island’s light rail transit (LRT) project by the federal government.

The move will also have less impact on fishermen operating from the Permatang Damar Laut area.
