Although the Covid-19 pandemic is far from over and the demand for international travel remains weak, Mongolia opened its new Chinggis Khaan International Airport recently (july 4).
The new airport near Ulaanbaatar will be operated by the joint venture created by Mitsubishi Corporation (MC), Narita International Airport Corporation (NAA), Japan Airport Terminal Co., Ltd. (JAT), and JALUX Inc. (JALUX), alongside the Mongolian government.
Mongolian Airlines flight OM 501, a Boeing 737-800 flight from Ulaanbaatar to Tokyo’s Narita Airport, has become the airport’s maiden flight.
The airport is capable of handling some 12 million passengers per year.
