In order to conserve on the wastage of face masks and also the environment the Malaysian Museum & Art has produced custom made washable fabric mask.
“The idea was triggered from the impending problem of how we could showcase our paintings and artifacts collection during the Covid-19 pandemic,” state exco for Tourism, Arts, Culture and Heritage, Yeoh Soon Hin.
He added that with the invention of washable fabric face masks, we are able to solve the current problem by reducing waste created by disposable face masks and also conduct the very first people to people art exhibition by wearing the artworks and artifacts itself.
“The designs were inspired from our permanent collection of paintings and artifacts will create a sense of awareness and also a sense of belonging to our national heritage in challenging times, to remind who we truly are and where we come from.
“This is one of state effort to develop creative economy. The creative economy is now an industry which is rapidly growing globally and he believes that this industry can be the next economic powerhouse for the state.
“By purchasing a fabric mask made exclusively by the Penang State Museum, you are doing a part by promoting and showcasing our important works to the members of public. So, what are you waiting for? Be a part of a walking museum Face Mask ambassador now!” added Yeoh.

There are a total of 15 designs are available altogether to choose from and each fabric mask is priced at RM20 (excluding postage).
