Members of the Shangri-la Group in Penang, namely the Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa, Golden Sands Resort and Hotel Jen collaborated with Diversey, a global hygiene and cleaning company and another non-governmental organisation WHY LovingCare to hand out reusable face masks.

The recipients were students of SMK Teluk Bahang which was founded in 2002 and houses some 400 students from low income groups from the nearby Teluk Bahang and Batu Ferringhi area.

Leading the hotel team was general manager Elaine Yue along with her marcom team.

On hand to welcome them was school headmistress Azlina Mokhtar and other teachers.

After a brief speech, Yue handed over the face masks to Azlina and later toured a fifth form class to hand out the face masks.

“We are glad to play our role to contribute to deserving members of the community during these trying times,” said Yue.

The students and teachers of the school were grateful for the kind gesture.

The global project consists of 21 participating Shangri-La hotels and resorts across South East Asia and Sri Lanka collectively donating 12,500kg of used, clean bedsheets, duvet covers and pillowcases to NGOs. Half a million reusable face masks are expected to be recycled.

WHY LovingCare was represented by its founder Violyn Wong while Diversey was represented by Benjamin Chew.
