Hotels and resorts in Penang are “throwing” their room rates to entice more local guests after it was announced that interstate travel is allowed from Wednesday, June 10, 2020.

Since the airports are still closed and international travellers not allowed into the country, this promotional gesture is also part of their efforts to encourage domestic tourism.

Among the major attractions include the 5-star hotels which have almost slashed 50-70 per cent of their original room rates compared to the rates prior to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Some are even offering a night’s stay for free for those staying for two consecutive nights while others are throwing in a lunch or dinner for two.

Even those hotels in Batu Ferringhi beach front hotels like the Hard Rock Hotel Penang which is reopening today (Friday June 12), is offering special rates from RM238++ onwards.

The “Selamat Kembali, We Miss You” package of the Shangri-la resorts comes with all the perks and extras, rates starting from RM700 nett for two nights at Golden Sands and the third is free.

At Rasa Sayang, the rates start from RM1,120 nett for two nights and stay for the third night free. Booking can be made now until 31 August and the staying period is until 31 December 2020.

The Lexis Suites Penang is offering their popular executive pool suite at RM280nett. Similarly, their property in Port Dickson, are also offering attractive rates.

The hospitality industry is among those hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic and these promotions serves as a “restart” for them in the second quarter to regain and recoup their losses.

“We have not seen these kind of competitive rates especially at the beach and city hotels since a long time now,” said an industry observer, adding that this is the right time and value for money to enjoy the facilities and the idealic surroundings of the hotels.

So wait no more, if you have been missing Penang’s food like nasi kandar, street food and it’s durians, do not miss this once in a “blue moon” opportunity while these amazing room rates prevail.
