The Shangri-La Rasa Sayang Penang embarked on a community project to “Save Our Trees” to safeguard two Ketapang trees on the public beachfront affected by erosion. 

The two Ketapang trees have been standing for over 50 years and have suffered partial damage to their root systems due to high tidal waves.

Recognising the importance of these trees as a vital part of our ecosystem, the resort embarked on the campaign to fortify and safeguard their existence through the project.

Leading the team was resort general manager Marcus Christ along with Communication Director, Sueliman Tunku Abdul Rahman along with staff members from the various departments.

There was around 60 staff members from the Food & Beverage Department, Finance, Procurement, Engineering, Sales & Marketing, Front Office, Security, Human Resource, Stewarding, and Gardens section among others.

The Save Our Trees campaign will be continued for alternating Fridays from 9am to 11am.

Other than fortifying the base of the twin trees, they will also implement measures to prevent further damage caused by the tidal waves.

Volunteers were seen filling xandbags and stacking them to form a barrier to ensure the stability and longevity of both trees.

“We believe that by coming together as a community, we can make a significant impact on preserving these remarkable trees,” said Suleiman.

The campaign also aims to raise awareness among the local community and visitors about the adverse effects of beach erosion.
