Meet Ali Akbar Abdul Rahman, the dedicated tea master at the Light Hotel Penang.

He is a popular figure at the hotel especially during breakfast and also in the evenings.

Guests who have tasted his tea making skills will surely come back for more.

Incidentally, the Light Hotel Penang is among the very few hotels to have a dedicated person to make tea or coffee.

Al comes with more than 23 years of tea making in the industry. He has been with the Light Hotel Penang for more than 7 year now.

Among his specialties are masala tea, ginger tea, teh tarik, Chennai tea and Malaysia tea.

“I am also at ease making coffee. Among them are Latte, Cappuccino and Bru coffee. A good dose of tea or coffee gives one a jumpstart for the day ahead,” quipped Ali.

He shared that making a good cup of tea requires good tea leaves followed by the “tarik” or “pulling” ones put into it.

Despite better offers from other parties, Ali prefers to work at the Light Hotel Penang as the owner has been very kind to him and also takes care of their welfare
