First Mercure branded hotel opens in Langkawi

The first Mercure branded hotel in Langkawi, the Mercure Langkawi Pantai Cenang was officially opened over the weekend. (Saturday, May 7) 2022.

Former Prime Minister and the Member of Parliament for Langkawi, Tun Mahathir Mohamad officiated the opening.

Tun M was welcomed by the hotel directors led by Alfred Low, Low Poh Eng, Tan Hin Giap, Tan Heng Peng and hotel general manager Jasmin Keh.

Also present was ACCOR group’s Senior Vice President (Operations) Malaysia and Indonesia, Michel Vivier.

Tun M performed the ribbon cutting ceremony accompanied by a grand lion dance .

“I would like to congratulate Mercure Langkawi on their official opening. Langkawi is a tourist destination and the pandemic has greatly affected tourism.

“With signs of the industry recovering now, we hope that more tourists will visit Langkawi,” said Tun M.

Meanwhile, Vivier added that the group hopes to open three more hotels in Malaysia over the next two months.

“We are committed to develop the tourism industry and congratulate Mercure Langkawi official opening,” he added.

The Mercure Langkawi Pantai Cenang offers some 165 rooms in various categories.

Among the facilities at the Mercure Langkawi are the All-day Dining, Lobby Lounge & Bar, Fitness Center, Swimming Pool, Kids Zone, a Ballroom and three meeting rooms.

They are led by their general manager Jasmine Keh who has been with the Accor Group for the past 15 years.  The opening ceremony saw a thunderous lion dance followed by lunch for guests.
