As an added measure to alleviate and rejuvenate the hospitality industry during these testing times, the Penang State Government will be waiving “Hotel Fee” charges from July 1 to December 31 , 2020.
The six months waiver was announced by the State Exco for Tourism, Arts, Culture and Heritage, Yeoh Soon Hin in a press statement today. . Yeoh said the decision came after the Federal Government lifted the ban on interstate travelling with domestic tourism resumed nationwide.
He said this initiative is a state effort to rebuild tourism and support the industry for a rebound, following efforts made to sustain various sectors and the most vulnerable groups of the industry.
“Along with the waiver in Tourism Tax at federal level, these assistance will be able to spur up interest towards reactivating tourism and support tourism recovery efforts for months to come.
“The six months exemption is part of the plan, together with various promotional efforts and an upcoming tourism incentives program which will be introduced in stages to continuously attract domestic tourists throughout the coming months until the end of the year.
“This is also aligned with “Penang Lawan Covid” effort, stay at hotels where there are proper SOPs and precautionary measures taken.
“This is in line with the Penang State Government vision where we are pushing for responsible tourism, to make our state and country a safer place for the community and visitors,” he added.
