A&W back in Ipoh City again

Hailed as the very first fast food chain to open in Malaysia, A&W reopened its outlet at the Ipoh Parade shopping complex recently with throngs of people patronizing the outlet.

“We decided to go back to Ipoh city after so many years as we want to bring back the memories that Ipohites had in the past with the new retro concept of A&W.

“We wanted to bring back the “good old days” while at the same catering to a young and modern generation of consumers. While the new store will certainly have its unique appeal to the older generation, we believe that millennials will find the new store more Instagram worthy as we believe we have something truly unique in A&W,” said Emily Tan, marketing manager of A&W Malaysia Sdn Bhd to Where2lifestyle.

The A&W Ipoh is the 51th outlet in Malaysia and follows the retro themed concept which features a modern take on chic retro design.

“We are excited to bring the new retro concept A&W because Malaysians have grown up with the brand since 1963, having come to love some of our signature menu items such as flavorful coneys, tantalizing waffles and our most refreshingly iconic A&W RB.

“In more recent times, however, Malaysians have also built a fond affinity with some of newer signatures including the Mozza Burger and our Golden and Spicy Aroma Chicken made from fresh ingredients to ensure the highest quality of our offering,” said Emily.

It was back in 1963, when A&W made Malaysian history when it became the first fast food restaurant to open in the country. For more than half a century, the brand has etched itself into the hearts of Malaysians with its famed and distinguished root beer, floats, burgers, ice cream waffles and its beloved mascot, Rooty the Bear.

 

The A&W brand would go on to be a brand with which Malaysians from all walks of life would grow to love, creating deeply rooted memories with friends and loved ones.

As a pioneer in the Malaysian fast food industry, the brand now has conceptualised plans to leverage on its rich heritage and legacy in Malaysia to make a big comeback to re-live its glory days, reclaiming the hearts and minds of a new generation of discerning consumers.

Coincidentally, the month of August will see two major events happening in the A&W chain outlets.

In conjunction with “National Float Day” on Thursday, Aug 6, A&W is offering RM 1 RB Float in all outlets for dine-in and takeaways.

Next, from Friday, Aug 14 – 16 Aug, they are having their “A&W Chicken Fiesta” where they offer four (4) pieces of Aroma Chicken at the lowest price ever to reward their loyal customers and attract new customers who have never tried the A&W favourites.

To add on to the good news, A&W will also spread its wings by opening more new outlets in Kepong, Sunway Velocity. There will also be two kiosks which will open in IOI City Mall and Mid Valley KL which targets different groups of audiences.

(On a lighter note, for a down memory lane trip, the writer himself was a part-time staff at the very first A&W outlet.way back in time).
